Brightspace Course Evaluation:
Using OSCQR Standards

Role
Instructional Designer
Date
Summer 2025
As part of the SUNY Center for Professional Development Instructional Design Certificate Program, I conducted a comprehensive OSCQR (Open SUNY Course Quality Review) evaluation of a faculty-developed Brightspace course within SUNY Cortland's Childhood and Early Childhood Education program.
The review examined course organization, accessibility, navigation, instructional design, learner support, and assessment practices. Based on the evaluation, I developed evidence-based recommendations to improve usability, accessibility, and the overall learner experience while applying instructional design principles in a real-world higher education environment.
As higher education institutions continue preparing for the digital accessibility requirements established under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), frameworks such as OSCQR have become valuable tools for evaluating course quality and identifying accessibility improvements. While this project was completed as part of my instructional design training, it reflects many of the same evaluation practices instructional designers use to support faculty in creating more accessible and inclusive online learning environments.
